Style Story: Cactus Nursery Offbeat Wedding

There is always a venue that surprises you. A place that takes you down a rabbit hole with its unique surroundings and playful art. Well this particular venue did just that, however I wouldn’t want to “play” in it. Cactus Joe’s Nursery is a venue that took me into a garden of cacti and fun.

Located on the outer edge of Las Vegas, in Blue Diamond with a backdrop of Red Rock Canyon, sits this 7.5 acre gem. A wonderful, functional garden center & cactus nursery, with its own flare. Every corner of this nursery is inspired by its own owner Joe with his fascination in beautiful cacti, flea market findings, and hidden treasures. Beyond the glorious fields of cacti, succulents, agave and more, garden inspired items make this venue a work of art. When touring the property, you could get lost among its eclectic walkways of cacti and color.

Sitting on the outer edge of the property, with a wonderful desert backdrop, is a wonderful, small chapel. Unique like the venue itself, it reminds me of a western chapel they would of had in the old days. Small and charming, the chapel smells of sweet wood and can be a beautiful setting for any elopement, while larger weddings can be held with seating rentals outside of the chapel.

For this wedding inspiration, wedding planner/designer Heather Benge, focused on this venues offbeat character, but stayed true to a formal bride’s qualities. A gorgeous calligraphy backdrop, made by EG Letters, was placed in the chapel for a last touch of romantic atmosphere. Its stationary, whimsical and colorful, is a hint to wedding guests to the colorful palette in-store.

Gorgeous floral, from the famous Intrigue Designs, enhanced the space with colors of orange, purples, pinks & yellows. The bouquet, a centerpiece of its own, designed with its array of colors, vibrant cacti, and succulents, could make any bride stand out. The bright floral touches from bouquets to the wedding cake table, just made the venues natural colors stand out more. The reception table centerpiece, highlighted each hue as it sat on a elegant velvet lavender table cloth from Party Crush Studio. To add an accent of gold, the table was set with simple white dishes with gold chargers & delicious, gold macaroon favors.

The cake table was one of the venue’s wonderful stone tables, set along Joe’s orange picket fence. A bright, magenta fabric accent sent this cake into a different world. Beyond all the hints of colors, a marvelous white three-tier cake stood its ground in the center. Designed by The Mad Batter Cafe & Bakery, the cake gives a formal bride an elegant twist with its gold inlay and simple floral additions.

What made this shoot more vibrant than it already was, was some of the extra hints of Vegas. For portrait time, we had the bridal party set up with a motorcycle from Calamity Jane Adventures in Cactus Joe’s own desert back drop. What many might not know, is that not many photographers have clearance to photograph the open desert. But if you are on the private property of Cactus Joe’s, you can photograph right in their backyard. Giving you an open desert feel with the Red Rock Canyon in the distance.

Overall, this inspiration design and style was just an array of wonderment. I hope it opens brides’ minds to what their wedding can be. If you aren’t looking for the cookie cutter hotel; dream big, you can find venues and treasure troves in the most unique of places. ~ Danielle Durbin Film & Photo
